Become a Volunteer International Student Ambassador!
We are looking to recruit new Volunteer International Student Ambassadors to join our existing team!
International Student Ambassadors assist in a variety of events for international students and create opportunities for students from all cultural backgrounds to meet and share their experiences. The role of Student Ambassador is to give new students a fair and accurate representation of life here at UNM and in Albuquerque. Ambassadors will draw upon their culture-specific knowledge, international student experiences, and leadership/intercultural communications skills to assist incoming and current international students with a successful transition and acclimation to living in Albuquerque and campus life at the University of New Mexico.
Qualifications
Must be a student enrolled at the University of New Mexico
Must be considered an international student – thus may not hold US citizenship
Have displayed initiative, self-discipline, and integrity
Be familiar with on-campus student resources
Must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA
Duties and Expectations
Be a positive role model of the University of New Mexico
Communicate authentically and effectively with both faculty and students
Be respectful towards different social, ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds of all people
Answer any questions that international students may have about student/campus life, local culture, or adapting to living in Albuquerque, or attending the University of New Mexico
Be creative with new and innovative ideas about expanding the scope of the program
Have an outgoing and friendly personality with a natural sense of curiosity
Promote, support, and professionally represent the values of the University of New Mexico
Foster a sense of “home” among international students through social and other engagement efforts
Lead efforts to organize social events for new or continuing international students
Respond to student emails within 24-48 hours
